Gloucester Brass plays music that is as enjoyable for audiences to listen to as it is for the band to play. We do not take part in brass band contests, but focus entirely on preparing for and giving public performances, which take place in a variety of venues, including churches, shopping centres, garden parties, flower shows, fetes and public parks. We have a wide repertoire, including music from musicals, film and TV themes, marches and arrangements of classical music.
The senior band rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30pm at St Philips and St James Church Centre, Larkhay Road, Hucclecote GL3 3NR
We also have a training band - click on the link above to read about that
Gloucester Brass was formed in 1992 from a small nucleus of experienced players joining with some enthusiastic learners of various ages.
It has grown steadily, now numbering over 30 players, ranging from 13 to 80+ years of age. You are never too old to learn and enjoy this fascinating pastime! For twenty years the band was led by Roger Pearman, who succeeded in creating a real sense of commitment and shared enjoyment in music-making amongst all band members, whatever their musical background. Roger decided to retire from the position of conductor and musical director in 2011, handing over the baton to Mark Knight, a long-standing member of the band with considerable conducting experience.
Under Mark's leadership, the band has continued to progress and expand it's repertoire whilst still having an enormous amount of fun along the way!
2023 is, of course, our 31st year. But having lost a whole season to Covid, we can count it as our 30th season, hence the celebrations.
